National Polish Heritage Month Exhibit

To celebrate National Polish Heritage Month during October the Polish Sub-Committee of the RI Historical, Preservation and Heritage Commission will display Polish artifacts in the City Hall lobby arts space of Pawtucket Arts Council, as it has done for a number of years. Mrs. Jean Babiec arranges the display and this year the theme will be a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Solidarity, the unified group that helped break up communism. The second floor arts cases display the paintings of Allan Halle. Ethnic Groups and individual artists wishing to use the spaces to display art work, whether costumes, sculptures, paintings, photographs or other art work, please contact the Arts Council at 725-1151.

Galway Kinnell Poetry Contest

The 15th annual Galway Kinnell poetry contest is underway. Kinnell, who was born and raised in Pawtucket, is a famed poet, having won the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1984. He has also won a National Book Award and MacArthur Fellowship. The hope is that Kinnell will be able to attend the awards ceremony next Spring, read some of his poems, and help present the awards.
